Water Management

We work on improving water courses within the Tees catchment. Improving water quality and habitats, also assessing physical barriers that impact fish migrations and modifying them to reduce these impacts. We work with angling clubs and local interest groups to make the rivers a better place for nature. We carry out surveys and assessments to help plan appropriate and natural solutions to river pollution.

Fish Health and Monitoring

Fish populations are monitored because they are key components of the aquatic ecosystem and important ecological indicators that integrate natural and development-related changes over time. Fish are also a highly-valued subsistence and recreational resource in the region.

Eel Monitoring

Monitoring the annual trends in elvers are used as an indicator of the population status, helping us to identify potential barriers to migration, and act as a source of education and outreach for conservation issues within the River Tees catchment.

Improving Water Quality

Littering, dumping and metal waste negatively impacts the ecosystem causing issues such as pollution which kills off freshwater life. We conduct river clean ups to combat this issue and improve water quality.
