Fisheries & Water Management
We work on improving water courses within the Tees catchment. Improving water quality and habitats, assessing physical barriers that impact fish migrations, and modifying them to reduce these impacts. We work with angling clubs and local interest groups to make the rivers a better place for nature. We carry out surveys and assessments to help plan appropriate and natural solutions to river pollution.
Improving Water Quality
Littering, dumping, sewage, chemical and metal waste pollution negatively impact our local ecosystems. They can alter river conditions and result in poor health and kill offs of aquatic life. We work on reducing upstream pollution, and conduct river clean ups to improve water quality.
Fish Health and Monitoring
Fish populations are monitored because they are key components of the aquatic ecosystem and important ecological indicators that integrate natural and development-related changes over time. Fish are also a highly-valued subsistence and recreational resource in the region.
European Eel Monitoring
European eels are a critically endangered species. Monitoring eels helps us to understand local population health, identify barriers to migration, improve habitat availability, and act as an education and outreach tool for conservation issues within the River Tees catchment (click image for more information).
